2018 Honda Accord Crowned North American Car of the Year

The all-new and completely redesigned 2018 Honda Accord has earned the esteemed 2018 North American Car of the Year (NACTOY) award. The title was not determined by a single media outlet—but rather—an entire assortment of sixty automotive journalists from various magazines, television networks, radio stations, newspapers, and websites. It was through the collaboration and voting of these many revered individuals that the 2018 Honda Accord was discovered to serve as the North American Car of the Year.

As arguably one of the most prestigious awards in the automotive industry, the North American Car of the Year award has been crafted to recognize the most impressive and innovative vehicles in existence at the time of award-allocation. Subjecting countless vehicles to elaborate criteria—from innovation and design to safety and driver satisfaction to comfort and overall value relative to monetary cost—the award acts as an honor to receive.

“Honda took a clean-sheet approach to reinventing America’s most popular car, and we couldn’t be prouder to receive this honor for Accord as the North American Car of the Year…We’re especially proud for the production associates in Ohio where Accord has been built to the highest quality standards for over 35 years.1″ – Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of the Automobile Division and general manager of Honda Sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

The 2018 Honda Accord’s complete reinvention won over the NACTOY judges. They admired its new sleek and distinctive exterior design and increased passenger space inside. Its sophisticated handling, smooth ride and ample standard equipment also impressed the NACTOY evaluators (the Honda Sensing® Suite of driver assistive technology is standard on all 2018 Honda Accord trim levels). A lighter and more rigid body structure and newly designed chassis combined with a  new 1.5 liter DOHC direct-injected turbo with dual Variable Timing Control (dual VTC) generates an impressive 192 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 192 lb-ft of torque. An available 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC direct-injected turbo with i-VTEC® valve train can be matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. The new 2.0 Liter engine is brethren to the sporty 2017 Honda Civic Type R and produces an assertive 252 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque. The new engines are designed to deliver impressive performance while still achieving first-rate fuel economy. The automatic transmissions capitalize on torque for power, yet still achieve a quiet and fuel friendly driving experience. The redesigned manual transmission’s reduced ratio translates to more powerful acceleration. All of these improvements combined with the 2018 Honda Accord’s enhanced body and new chassis design created a driving experience that delighted the NACTOY judges.
